The earliest record of sports massage dates back to around 30-200 AD when a Roman physician named Galen would prescribe massage for gladiators before and after exercising. Jumping forward to the early 1900s, a Finnish man won 5 Olympic gold medals in the running competition and credited his success to the massages he received regularly.
